Title Explanation:
The first part of The Hunger Games is subtitled 'The Tributes' majorly because this is when we are introduced to the tributes. In the first section of the novel we are introduced to the two tributes from district 12, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, and also the other twenty-two tributes representing the other districts. Another reason this section of the novel is labelled 'The Tributes' is because it describes the entire process each tribute faces before entering the arena. It describes the reaping of each tribute, the planning, the beautification process, parade experience, training, and interviews. This is the section of the novel where you get to discover the tributes and their attitudes, also you are able to experience the tribute experience from the point of view of a tribute.

Major Plot Events:
During the first part of the novel a lot of important plot events happen. Mainly we are introduced to our protagonist of the series, Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is a strong teenage girl who is protective and supportive of her family. We are brought into her life and learn about her friends, family, and living situation. Katniss describes her self as not very good at making friends and only introduces the reader to two, Madge (Mayors daughter) and Gale Hawthorne (Hunting Partner). Also we learn about her family, which consists of her mother and younger sister Primrose. Since her father perished in a mining accident when she was younger, Katniss is in charge of supporting her family. We are also introduced to District 12 and the country of Panem. It is explained that every year the Capital of Panem hosts a televised fight to the death called The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is where two tributes- one femal and one male between 12-18 - from each district ( there are 12) are selected to travel to the Capital and compete for riches in a fight to the death. This event occurs to keep fear in the Districts to guarantee the survival of the Capital. Tributes are selected at the reaping every year, and this year Katniss's twelve year old sister is selected. In an effort to protect her sister from death Katniss volunteers and becomes a tribute for the 74th Hunger Games. Also selected for the Games is the baker's son , Peeta Mellark. They both travel to the Capital in order to prepare for the Games, but not before saying goodbye to their loved ones. While saying goodbye Katniss receives a golden mockingjay pin from the mayor's daughter Madge, and takes it with her as her District token. On the train to the Capital Katniss and Peeta are introduced to their mentor Haymitch Abernathy and their escort Effie Trinket. When they arrive at the Capital they immediatley are prepared for the tribute parade and meet their stylists. Katniss forms a special, trusting bond with her stylist Cinna. Later at the parade , with the help of Cinna and Portia (Peeta's stylist) Katniss and Peeta are made into the the girl and boy on fire when their stylist light their parade outfits on fire. This gets the district pair a great deal of attention from both sponsors and their fellow tributes. Next the two join the other tributes for a few days of training before performing in front of the Gamemakers for their scores. During this time they make alliances and learn about different survival aspects. While being evaluated by the Gamemakers Katniss displays her archery skills and scores a 11 for her bold move of shooting an arrow at the Gamemakers feast. This section ends with the tribute interviews and Peeta revealing to Caesar Flickerman during his interview how he has feelings for Katniss. Is this move strategy ? Or is it real?
