Letter Of Introduction:

Dear Mrs. Hockley,
A person’s character and personality is determined by many different traits. I would describe myself as a very creative, optimistic, and determined person .I casted myself as a very creative person because I am constantly interested in doing things in the most original and innovative way that I can. Moreover, I chose optimistic because I am always hopeful that things will work out and that nothing is ever too bad. Lastly, I chose to describe myself as determined because I am not one to give up easily. I am always determined to do things to the best of my ability. Being a very creative person I really enjoy to draw, paint, photograph, and write. I also have an obsession with reading and do it often in my spare time. I participate in a few extra curricular activities such as student council, volleyball, and I am a member of the Canadian Cancer Society. A big part of who I am is my friends! My best friends in the entire world are Karlee Winn, Emily Kendrick, and Victoria McIntyre. I have been friends with them for over eleven years and I can rely on them for anything. For instance, today I asked my friend Karlee how she would describe me and she said this, “Meg can be shy, but is so creative and clever. She has the truest heart and the purest motives, and I know she would do anything for me. She can find the good in everything and never has a negative thing to say. She is so persistent at everything she does, and can achieve anything she sets her mind to. to sum it all up she is hilarious, highly intelligent, and easily the most courteous person I have ever met.”. It meant a lot to me that she viewed me as this person. Finally, the thing I am very proud of accomplishing is honour roll two years in a row ! I pride myself in my intelligence and take my education very seriously so this was very special to receive.
Having goals is very important in life, especially when it concerns your academics. My academic goal for this semester is to try and obtain an eighty-five to ninety average in all of my classes. It is a very tough thing to do but I am being very optimistic about it. This goal is definitely attainable, but I know I will have to manage my time wisely and try my hardest in order to achieve it .Although I also have goals that are not necessarily educational for this semester. Another goal of mine is to become more confident and social during this second semester. My goal for this class specifically is to improve on writing essays. This is my main goal for this semester because essays are such a vital point to almost every class, and I want to learn how to construct them very eloquently and effectively now so that I will be prepared for the rest of my educational career. Speaking of my educational career, I hope to continue on with my academics after high school by attending university. Although I have yet to figure out which career or university I would like to pursue yet. Hopefully I will be able to do some more research concerning my interest and get a better idea on what I would like to do. Therefore I have another goal for both this semester and the next year, which is to narrow down what I would like to do for my career. In conclusion, I understand the importance of setting goals in your life, and figuring out how you are going to achieve them, especially when it comes to your education.
I have always loved writing both in and out of the classroom, but there are some challenges that I face while writing. As well as some strengths that I believe I possess, principally my creativity and word selections. I have a very silly and juvenile imagination so I love to make things as outrageous and complex as they can be while writing. Concerning my word selection, I always like to find the perfect word for each situation while writing. My weaknesses while writing are mainly grammar, spelling, and organization. I have a difficulty remembering exactly how my writing piece should be organized and my writing gets all over the place. During this semester I hope to improve on all of these things, also I would like to learn how to write the perfect introduction/thesis sentence as well as a conclusion sentence. The writing assignments I enjoy the most are often the creative writing assignments (stories, news reports), and the ones that I dislike are the essays. This is only because I am not confident in my ability how to make a proper essay. Therefore during this semester I will work my hardest to improve on my weaknesses and strengthen my strengths.
It is said that a reader lives a thousand lives in one lifetime, while those that don’t only live one. I admire this thesis and can confirm it is true. I have loved reading ever since I was assigned a book in the sixth grade. Since then I have read many different genres of novels and enjoyed each one. My greatest strengths as a reader have to be my comprehension and my ability to infer. I constantly make inferences and predictions while reading, and I have a general sense of everything that I am reading. I have no problem reading both silently and out loud, but sometimes I prefer to read out loud because I am able to put voices and emotions behind the characters. I actually have a lot of confidence when it comes to reading, so when I need to read publicly I have no problem. I think this is because of how often I read. I have just become comfortable with it and it comes naturally. Furthermore, I enjoy reading a variety of genres but my favorite at the moment would have to be dystopian. I am intrigued by how the authors are able to create completely different worlds that are still relatable to our own in certain ways. My favorite dystopian book is “The Fifth Wave” by Rick Yancey. Also I am a huge fan of John Green’s work because he offers a more realistic view of a young adults life. He also creates characters that are intelligent and witty, which is refreshing compared to some other young adult novels. During this semester I would like to improve my reading selection and try to read more advanced and significant novels.
Technology is becoming more involved in our everyday education. From assignments having to be completed online, to research and textbooks, students today rely on technology a lot. Personally I use my laptop daily for homework assignments, and occasionally my phone will be of assistance. I am able to access homework assignments from my laptop, research things for them, and then complete an entire assignment. It comes in handy constantly for homework and big projects. Especially last semester in Travel and Tourism, our laptops were constantly needed to build documents and maps. I will most likely bring my phone into classes because I am able to use apps, and email to assist in my work. In my opinion I think that technology can be a great asset to education, but it must be used responsibly and strictly for work. I think students take advantage of the use of technology every so often in class, but it doesn’t distinguish the fact that technology is a great asset to education.
In the past I have enjoyed English class a lot and it may even be one of my favourite subjects. I have really enjoyed being able to discover new books and discuss thoroughly. Also being able to learn new terms and words has been very enlightening. I can see me having problems when it comes to essays, but I hope that I will be able to over come this by the end of the semester have no problems with writing essays anymore! Through out this semester I will be respectful to my peers and my teacher. Also I will complete all of my assignments and help others if they need it. In conclusion, I hope that in this semester I will be able to complete all of my educational goals, and have an enjoyable time.
