I chose my Romeo and Juliet Essay as the most challenging piece of writing from this semester because it was a completely new experience. I have written essays before in this class and others , but I have never had to write an essay based around a play. Although they are similar there are small changes and guidelines that make writing difficult. A main difference that I struggled with while writing this piece was the different guidelines used for referencing. Every quote needed a different format for referencing depending on its characteristics (length). Which made composing this essay very lengthy and at sometimes confusing. There was also the use of roman numerals and the format that they needed to appear in that was very confusing. Overall the multiple guidelines for referencing contributed to the difficulty of writing this essay. Another reason this essay was challenging to myself was the main purpose. I found it very difficult and complex to explain my themes, mainly because of the way Shakespeare writes. It was very difficult to find themes and evidence while trying to understand the dialogue. Also I had trouble finding a way to leave the reader thinking about my essay in my conclusion. I wasn't sure how to convey a pondering thought that related to my thesis, and struggled. In conclusion, the Romeo and Juliet essay proved to be the most challenging piece of writing for me this semester because of the different guidelines for references, the difficult search for themes, and my struggle with an interesting conclusion.
